OCEANIA’S MOTIVATION:
“I struggle with depression . I am grateful to have been taught gardening as a child. I have a love and appreciation for plants because caring for them reminds me of what is important. It helps me take notice of life. Not to mention the increase in serotonin plants can provide. Sometimes my depression can cause numbness and disconnected feelings. This has caused me to totally neglect my plants at times, especially when I need to repot them. Currently, my plants are desperate for an upgrade. It’s time to let them grow! Digging your hands in the soil, gently dusting or snipping leaves, loosening roots and replanting when it’s time to grow… these are actions that inspire meditation, reflection and relief. Gathering together and empowering community has a positive impact on our moods as well. I figure, why not get together and repot our plants! I know I can’t be the only one that has had this on their to do list for too long. Let’s make it fun!”
Join us for a day of planting! All are welcome to participate. We ask that you bring a pot and/or plant with you (especially if you have a plant in a pot that needs a bigger one) but if you don’t have one, we will offer soil and a pot to whoever needs one (as long as supplies last). This event is to raise awareness about Suicide Prevention. We welcome all people who feel sad, worried, frustrated, stressed, anxious, etc. We invite you to bring your worries and your woes. This is a space that offers love, empathy, forgiveness and encouragement. We will guide you in a planting activity and curate the least awkward vibes as possible with good music and open bar. I promise we treat our visitors like family <3
